David Letterman Tweets For The First Time

Late_Show_Twitter_IconIf you have been a fan of the Late Show with David Letterman like I have been for years you know that he is not that computer savvy. So this was a monumental act for him. What he does not realize is that by doing this for the fist time himself he has just brought even more attention to his show than ever before.

The Late Show has had a Twitter account for The Late Show @Late_Show and has been up for some months now but Mr. Letterman had nothing to really do with it. Here is David Letterman’s first tweet. “Do you smell veal and peppers?”  More and more celebrities are seeing the potential power of Twitter.  Mr. Letterman had Actor Kevin Spacey on @KevinSpacey who said he only joined Twitter because his business manager said he should and now Kevin has just over 1.4 million followers.  Actors see Twitter as a direct connection to their adoring fan base.

So Mr. Letterman, Here are my Top 10 reasons why you should be on Twitter and Tweet more often.

Number 10. Twitter is fun, cool and hip and would impress all the young interns on your show.
Number 9. Jimmy Fallon @jimmyfallon has 2.3 million followers and you don’t want to let that young wipper snapper get the best you.
Number 8. Jay Leno of the Jay Leno Show @nbcjay has just over 20k followers and he just got a new show after leaving his old one.
Number 7. The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien @nbcconan has just over 20k followers and Conan just became the new host but is gaining ground on Jay’s new show.
Number 6. George Lopez of Lopez Tonight has 83k+ followers
@georgeLopez and that show only started last month. So get with it Homes!
Number 5. Wanda Sykes has a new late night show that airs on Saturday nights and it does not have a Twitter account yet but Watchout when she does.
Number 4. Many of your day time show competition like Barbara Walters @BarbaraJWalters of  The View and Ellen DeGeneres @theEllenShow are killing you on Twitter with almost 4.5 million between them and they are women with blond hair.
Number 3. The Monique Show @TheMoNiqueshow is on BET and she even has over 15k followers. Oh No She Didn’t!
Number 2. Twitter is FREE for now.
And the number one reason David Letterman should be on Twitter and Tweet more often……….. The Arsenio Hall Show Just declared Twitter War on you and his show has been off the air since 1994.  Things that make you say HUMMMMMMM.

All the best Mr. Letterman.

Featured Twarketing Profile “ColderICE” Wins Savviest In Social Media Award

colderice_winner1John Lawson from ColderICE.com has been recognized by StartupNation (http://www.startupnation.com) as one of the top businesses in its 2009 Home Based 100 competition under the category of Savviest in Social Media.

John’s company ColderICE was one of the first featured as a Twarketing Profile and Case Study.
Twitter and ColdedICE: Twarketing Case Study Number One

Many of the StartupNation Home-Based 100 submissions revealed that business owners are bucking the current economic downturn and finding business success in these tight times. Historically some of today’s most well known businesses started in a downturn, including Microsoft and General Electric.

“The 2009 ranking shows that the home-based business is more relevant than ever. The current recession has spurred a new wave of home based businesses as a response to loss of jobs, the need for supplemental income and the sheer passion for blazing your own trail and running your own show,” said Rich Sloan, co-founder of StartupNation.com, one of the leading small business networking and advice websites. “Home based businesses are the biggest block of all businesses in existence and we expect numbers to grow ever greater as extra bedrooms, kitchen tables, basements and garages become host to the innovative thinking and pursuit of success by millions of Americans.”

“This is by far one of the coolest recognitions ever for me” said John Lawson, editor of ColderICE.com, a education portal for internet business owners. “This is the first year that this category has been acknowledged and to be the first winner is truly trail blazing. Social media is officially on the map and now I get to be the first pin.”

The StartupNation Home-Based 100 highlights 10 top-ten lists making it not just your ordinary business ranking. From the wackiest, to the most innovative, to the savviest in social media – this unique and diverse list highlights the home-based businesses that usually go unrecognized, but still play a vital role in the economy today. MSN publishes the ranking as well in an editorial collaboration with StartupNation. The ten categories for 2009 include:

· Recession Busters

· Savviest in Social Media

· Most Innovative

· Boomers Back in Business

· Greenest

· Yummiest

· Wackiest

· Highest Vote-Getters

· Most Slacker-Friendly

· Most Glamorous

John Lawson was selected from among thousands of contestants by a StartupNation judging panel, which issues the ranking results annually in the November.

The full results of the Home-Based 100 ranking are available on StartupNation’s website at http://www.startupnation.com/homebased100/. The 2009 ranking was sponsored by Microsoft Office Live, Infusionsoft and FedEx Office.

Reid Hoffman and Biz Stone talk “Twitter On Linkedin”

twitter_linkedinIf you have not added your Twitter account to your Linkedin profile now is the time.
Linkedin and Twitter have official partnered and it is about to make a big dent in the Social Networking space.

Not only can you now have multiple Twitter accounts added to your Linkedin profile but all hashtags are now recognized. So please use #twarketing if you post this article to your Twitter feed. The only thing I suggest is that you don’t post all of your Tweets to your Linkedin account. When setting up your Twitter account on Linkedin use the selection that allows you to only post the tweets with “Share only tweets that contain #in” hashtag. Take a look at what Reid and Biz below have to say and let me know your thoughts.

Forbes: America’s Top 10 Small Public Companies And Their Twitter Status

Lumber_liquidators_twitterOk, I wanted to do a Forbes list that I thought was interesting, so I choose American’s Top 10 Small Public Companies.  This Top 10 list started out strong but those ranked ultimately became disappointing with only 3 out of the 10 having a Twitter presence. I was most impressed with Lumber Liquidators (@hardwoodforless) and Allegiant Air (@allegiantair) being on Twitter, being non-technology related companies.  I totally expected Rackspace  (@rackspace) to have a presence.

Lumber Liquidators went a step further by creating a very informative and branded Twitter background that gave additional information on how to contact their customer care center by 800 number.   I was most disappointed with Green Mountain Coffee which had a great website and blog but no Twitter address visible on either.  All of these public corporations had some form of media section on their website that did have downloadable pdf files and one even had a webcast selection.  Why they have not added a FREE Twitter address is beyond me.

There are 200 of these companies on this list. We are going to break down all 200 ten at a time until we get through the whole list. We will then do our own ranking based on all the companies that have a Twitter presence.  Let us know your thoughts on our findings.

All the best

JB
